Meet The F-35 Developmental Test Fleet At Edwards AFB

Aviation Week // March 20, 2015

With the F-35 development program 60% complete and two years to go, the test program is operating at a high pace.

Among the test aircraft at Edwards AFB are five added since the development started in 2001 to boost a focus on mission-systems flight trials, largely associated with the aircraft’s complex software. Several aircraft are being outfitted with the so-called 2B Engineering Test Build (ETB) software patch designed to correct deficiencies in the platform’s ship-to-ship data fusion performance.  Testers hope to validate this patch in time to deploy it when the U.S. Marine Corps declares initial operational capability in July.
