IAI Opens Production Line For F-35 Wings

TEL AVIV — Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) recently inaugurated its production line for F-35 Joint Strike Fighter wings.

Expected to produce 811 pairs of wings in the next 20 years, the line started operating in September. It will provide wings for theIsraeli air force’s 50 F-35s, as well as for the U.S. Air Force and European customers, with the exception of Turkey.

"With a production rate currently set at about four wing sets per month, we will deliver the first set of wings to Lockheed Martin by mid-2015," said Rafi Maor, IAI chairman. Currently employing 30 workers in the wings line, IAI plans to expand that to 70 employees, with estimated potential sales of $2.5 billion through 2030.
