F-35 Wings Production Line Inaugurated

Israeli Air Force // November 06, 2014

The new production line of the Lockheed Martin JSF (F-35) was inaugurated earlier this week at the "Lahav" factory of the Israeli Aerospace Industry (IAI).

As of now, the company has signed a contract committing to manufacture 20 pairs of wings and both companies also signed a memorandum of understanding to increase the number of wings to 811, in the cost of 2.5 billion dollars.

In fact, the production line has started its work during September and the production of the first pair of wings is due to be completed in six months. Afterwards the company will continue in a production rate of four wings a month for the next 20 years.

The wings will be attached to the F-35A stealth fighters, some of which will enter the service of the IAF during 2017 and be upgraded with Israeli systems to become the F-35I ("Adir" in Hebrew). Therefore, it is not unreasonable to believe that some of the wings will return to Israel.
