Lockheed Martin and Xanadu: Redefining Quantum Machine Learning
Lockheed Martin and Xanadu announced a joint research initiative that could one day give defense and civilian users a decisive computational edge by advancing the foundational theory and emerging applications of Quantum Machine Learning (QML).
The research focuses on generative models, a machine learning technique to capture the underlying structure of data to create new, realistic examples.
While generative models underpin much of today’s progress in classical AI, their quantum equivalents are at the frontier of quantum learning research today. This new collaboration will explore whether quantum computers can exploit quantum-native operations that are fundamentally inaccessible to classical machine learning methods.
If quantum‑native operations can do what classical computers can’t, future sensing, data‑fusion and decision‑advantage tools could become more resilient and faster, proving a potential edge for defense systems.
