Nevatim Air Base
Israel's First Operational F-35 Base
On Dec. 12, 2016, two F-35I Adir jets arrived at Nevatim Air Base, near Beersheba in the Negev Desert, Israel. Nevatim is the first operational mission F-35 base outside of the United States to begin flight operations at their country’s base.
Within 16 hours of aircraft delivery, pilots of the Israeli Air Force’s “Golden Eagles” Squadron based at Nevatim flew the F-35s on their first in-country operational training sorties. Throughout 2017, the Golden Eagles will continue in-country test and training flights to acclimate the F-35’s capabilities to the IAF’s requirements while continuing to train additional aircrews as they work toward Initial Operational Capability (IOC).
